Kimberly Winston
I was born in
Dayton, Ohio and raised in New York City and Kingwood, Texas. I
attended the University of Texas at Austin, where I majored in theater.
In 1993, I attended the Columbia Graduate School of Journalism and
graduated in 1994. It was there that I developed an interest in
religion reporting, thanks to the influence of my favorite teacher, Ari
Goldman, former religion reporter for the New York Times. My
work has appeared in The Dallas
Morning News, Newsday, The Washington Post, USA Today, The San Diego
Union Tribune, The Los Angeles
Times, The San Jose Mercury News, The Chicago Tribune and on
Beliefnet.com. In 2005, I received the
American Academy of
Religion award for excellence in reporting on religion in media with
over 100,000 circulation. I am the author of two books, and am
currently at work on a third.
Since 1994, I have lived in and reported about religion from the San
Francisco Bay Area.
